Week 6, Assignment 2
This week I am to address my concerns of academic integrity, plagiarism, intellectual property, and alternatives to traditional copyright practices. First and for most I have no issues with academic integrity. I am the only person who is responsible for my education. Should I not follow the rules then I should be held accountable for my actions. On the matter of plagiarism I am always concerned I will end up plagiarizing. However I have learned over the several weeks that if I am unsure always give credit by providing an in-text citation and even paraphrasing can lead to plagiarism. Intellectual property is the law that protects ownership of personal property and real estate, it also protects the exclusive control of intangible assets. I am glad this law is put into place. I know I will be protected when I put my time and effort into getting a paper published and anyone who uses my work as their own can and will be prosecuted. With technology and the ease of the internet it is very easy to just copy and paste information. After taking this research class I will have no excuse for not being held accountable should I chose not to follow the rules. This class has provided me with the tools to be successful in the research process as well as how to give credit to the people who do the work.

Hi Scarlett! (Love the name :) )
ReplyDeleteLike you, i too had no idea about the Open Access Journals. I'm not sure about you, but for me they did not help with my research, I used all 3 suggested in the class instruction .pdf file sh gives. I ended up using Google Scholarly as suggested by our textbook. I know that you were able to find and article but, was it fairly easy for you?
Last week we also learned more in depth about plagiarism and I thought that it is such an important topic because so many people take credit for the work that others put into their research. And after this class and all the research we have learned to do, I feel that plagiarism is unfair for those who worked hard. Because we all know how hard research is and how time consuming. I would be upset if someone took my work without my permission or without giving me credit.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this class as much as I have, I'm sure you felt frustrated at times, because I sure did. But we learned so much.
Best of luck to you in your pursuit for your degree :)
