Week 4 Assignment 2
I have become very familiar with the process of finding articles for my topic. This week I choose to research the treatments available for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. I typed PTSD in the main search engine of the Leatherby Library. From there I selected advanced search and typed treatment. I also chose to limit my search to only peer reviewed articles and set the time bar between 2010 and 2015. I looked over the first two articles that were available and decided they were a good sources for my research paper. I emailed myself the articles as well as the APA citation for them. Both articles spoke about the study presented and the number of people that partook in the study. I feel they are both valuable sources of information and have provided me with other ideas of what I would like to research.

Hi Scarlett,
ReplyDeleteI think PTSD is a great subject to research, I've never seen it become so common as it has in the last decade or so since the war in Afghanistan began and we started to have the returning injured troops suffering from it.
I'm not sure if surprise is the right word to use about you using Google, I don't think it is the right word :) What I'm trying to say is that it was refreshing to me to see someone go out of the typical Library research and perform a more broad research. It doesn't surprise me that you were able to find more that way, specially because in our Library we don't really get websites as a result, but articles or journals and such. For me using Google for my topic of "online K-12 education" gave me too many results in which I did not find any scholarly (peer-reviewed) studies or articles about it.
My question for you is, Do you find Google to be a better source of information than our Leatherby Library? I like knowing what works best for others, sometimes I can combine what helps others in order to help me when I find myself struggling.
