Week 1 Assignment 2

My name is Scarlett Humphrey. I am married and have six children. I have been living in Tacoma, Washington for the past 10 years. I am currently working on my state certification as a home care aid provider. I currently assist a family with an autistic child and hope to assist more families in the near future. I am a transfer student from Tacoma Community College. This is only my second session here at Brandman University. I am working on my Bachelors in Social Science. For my career I am still undecided. I had originally planned on becoming a social worker. After my Child Development class last session I am beginning to think I might enjoy becoming a child psychologist. Doing so would also coincide with my desire to work with autistic children and children with learning disabilities.
I feel I could become better at research and user of information by reading the required material and continuing to do research on subjects that interest me. I will also learn how to properly evaluate the research that I find. I have done lots of research on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) after my husband's diagnosis. What I found out was there is a lot of information but it was hard to understand exactly what I was looking for. I hope from taking this class that I will have the ability to locate information more easily and to be effective in the information that I gather and without the possibility of plagiarizing.

  1. School and six children I thought I had it rough with school and 2 children. I commend you for all your hard work. I also am so grateful to people like you who assist Autistic children. I work in a kindergarten class of 28 and 1 of my student is Autistic so I know that it is not an easy feat. Good luck this term. Excited for your posts.

  2. Hello Scarlett. I am also in my second session here at Brandman. I am nervous about this independent program of online learning. I am hoping to find lots of support with my peers and instructors. I am intrigued by this class so far and I must admit, I am a little anxious too. I imagine that is to be expected though. Hope to be working together in the future posts! "Together we get things done!"
